SignStix worked with one of the UK’s specialist forensic mental health services, The Bracton Centre, an Oxleas NHS Foundation to provide a tailor-made solution that was designed and deployed to meet every requirement.
THE CHALLENGE
To help serve its patients and visitors with the best possible experience, The Bracton Centre wanted to improve engagement levels through impactful messages, up-to-date information and entertainment. With limited space options within the reception and outside the wards, plus the need for screens to be protected from damage and anti-ligature The Bracton Centre required innovative thinking to help them achieve this goal.
THE SOLUTION
To transform their vision into reality, The Bracton Centre teamed up with Conceptunet and SignStix for a perfect installation that met every goal.
The solution utilised the SignStix Content Management System (CMS), a cloud-based platform that can be accessed from anywhere in the world without downloading software, with the ability for central or local content deployment.
The signage solution was combined with Philips D Line signage screens which are proven as a robust panel with the ability to run the SignStix CMS “on chip” which eliminates the need and cost of a separate media player.
To meet the health and safety requirements of the brief, the screens located inwards were installed in secure, anti-ligature enclosures which provided additional security for the screens and safety for service users.
The development team also created a series of templates to display static, animated, and video content meaning the staff could easily and quickly update the screens. In addition, each ward had its own folder which meant staff had a dedicated section where the templates could be stored and deployed that were relevant to their ward.
A key part of the project was creating an easy-to-use way of managing content changes. The Conceptunet team created a bespoke Carousel sign which has a direct link to an upload folder for each ward or location. This enables the users to simply upload or delete files from an upload folder without any specialist design skills.
To assist staff training was provided to users via webinars supported by online training videos and a support helpdesk for queries and issue resolution. For more complex queries and development projects, the Conceptunet team are always on hand.
JavaScript extension function will enable the media players to be connected to the alarm systems so that when an alarm is triggered pre-staged emergency messages will be immediately and automatically displayed on appropriate screens without user intervention.

Anna Gillespie, Forensic Community Manager, NHS Foundation Trust said:
“Conceptunet has worked closely with the Bracton management team to ensure that the project objectives have been met and with IT and facilities to ensure the installation ran smoothly given the challenging environment.
They have taken a proactive lead in developing the CMS to meet our specific requirements in managing content at the individual ward levels with only basic PC knowledge required.
The team are always available to answer questions, give advice and problem-solving.
Feedback from patients and staff has been excellent, the system has had a really positive impact on our ability to provide up-to-date, relevant information to patients and visitors which in turn has boosted morale and helped our CQC compliance”
